The Southeast FireMap team is actively developing SE FireMap Version 2.0, building upon the successful release of Version 1.0 in March 2021. This new phase focuses on three main objectives:

  • Incorporating Harmonized Landsat and Sentinel-2 (HLS) Data.
  • Expanding the Geographic Scope of SE FireMap.
  • Developing Accompanying Decision-Support Tools.

SE FireMap Version 2.0 is slated for release in 2026.

Process for Developing SE FireMap Version 2.0

TOT image

The development of SE FireMap Version 2.0 is a collaborative effort led by the National Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and the U.S. Endowment for Forest and Communities, in partnership with USGS and Tall Timbers. This work is guided and supported by a technical oversight team of subject matter experts nominated by ALRI and SERPPAS partners

To ensure the next version meets user needs, the project team is conducting a variety of engagement activities, including:

  • Hybrid Workshops Targeting Various User Groups
  • Exhibitor Hall Booth at the Biennial Longleaf Pine Conference
  • Small Online Focus groups

These efforts are designed to gather valuable input and feedback from stakeholders, ensuring SE FireMap Version 2.0 delivers improved tools and expanded capabilities to support land management and conservation planning.
