Overview: Land managers are charged with addressing the implications of climate change on America’s public lands and waters. There are many challenges embedded in this charge, not the least of which is a wide range of perceptions among land managers regarding the uncertainty, consequence, and urgency of this issue. Adopting new management practices to combat climate change is very difficult if those entrusted with implementing those practices do not believe that a problem exists. This lecture will not focus on why this level of disbelief exists, but instead focus on how to reach a common ground between those engaged in climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts and non-believers. Additionally, the lecture will present effective tools and practices for communicating climate change issues to all audiences concerned with natural resource conservation and preservation.
