LCC National Council Convening
Purpose of the LCC National Council:
The LCC National Council will support the cooperative, large-scale conservation efforts of the LCC Network by working with them to enhance coordination among the LCCs and to identify ecological and institutional challenges such as climate change and other landscape-scale stressors that should be addressed on the national and international scale. Serving as the national voice for the LCC network, the Council will seek to support actions that can be taken at the national level to facilitate the work of the cooperatives. The LCC National Council will support all self-directed LCCs and their diverse individual missions, some of which include cultural resources. Once established, the LCC National Council will establish operations and implementation frameworks as needed.
LCC participation:
The LCC National Council Charter calls for one LCC participant on the LCC National Council. The process to select the LCC participant was developed by the LCC Coordinators Team (LCT). Current LCC Coordinators, LCC Steering Committee chairs, vice-chairs, and co-chairs are eligible to serve as the LCC participant on the LCC National Council. Nominations can be submitted on behalf of an eligible applicant or by self-nomination. The LCT will review the nominations and select their recommendation for submittal to the U.S. Institute. Final recommendations for all LCC National Council participants will be reviewed and affirmed by the full LCC national strategy team before a formal invitation is extended to the LCC participant.
Here is a nomination form for use to provide nomination to the LCT for the LCC participant on the Council. Completed nominations (attached) are due by September 18, 2013. Please submit applications via email to Penny Mabie (pmabie@enviroissues.com) for consideration.
It is expected that the first Council meeting will be in early November 2013, in Washington, D.C. Future meetings may be in other locations. Selection of the other Council participants is also underway. See www.lccnetwork.org for information about federal, state, major partnership, tribal, international, indigenous, and NGO membership selection.
