Tennessee River Valley Science Conference

Dr. Mary Davis, Appalachian LCC Assistant Coordinator, attended the Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) River Science Conference on April 11-12 at Montgomery Bell State Park near Burn, Tennessee.

The conference was organized to facilitate communication and sharing among TVA and others interested in managing water resources in the Tennessee River basin. While this river is home to more species of fish, mussels, and other aquatic biota than any other river in North America, it has dramatically changed over the years and is currently highly managed. The challenges are great to manage water to meet human needs while supporting the natural biota that depends on this American treasure.

The conference was attended by nearly 100 engineers and scientists, many of whom presented their work in the basin. Mary represented the LCC on two panels. She presented information about the importance of the Tennessee River in the Landscape Conservation Design, as well as the resources the Cooperative brings to help partners implement more strategic and durable conservation.
